Hi To Everybody:
Thanks to everybody who has checked in so far. I think we have an unusually responsive group here, so that's great!
One hard lesson of previous years: if you don't have a car at the Workshop, it can be tough to get to your asssignment! Jefferson and Sullivan Counties are a big, wide area, and because our theme -- The Big Adventure -- is all about the great outdoors, having a car to conquer it is almost a neccessity.
We will be taking advantage of early-morning light on Saturday, and if you can get to your assignment on your own steam, that would be wonderful. Of course, if you don't have a car, we will do what we can to get you there. But it may be the difference between giving you the assignment you're perfect for, and the assignment you can shoot because it's close by.
I'm urging you to look into renting a car for the workshop weekend. Economy cars near Liberty run about $35.00/day; you can rent one for a single day, too (Friday to Saturday being the best for that). If you are able to rent a car, but can't get to the car rental place to pick it up, let me know so I can assist you. Our home base is the hotel at Liberty, and you can rent cars in Liberty, in nearby Middletown, and in New York and Westchester Counties.
Please let me know if you will be without a car for the Workshop, so I can better plan assignments.
Thanks, guys!
Suzy
Hi Suzy,
ReplyDeleteI'm coming from Vietnam and won't have a car.
How did photographer get to their assignments in the past?
I am happy to rent a car for $35 if you think it is really necessary. Can you help me get to the car rental place for pick up and drop off?
Do you by any chance have to website or contact for Economy Cars so that I can make a reservation?
Thanks for the help,
Ehrin
Hi Ehrin:
ReplyDeleteNice to hear from you! Definitely someone will get you to the rental car place if you decide to rent. If enough people rent we can all go together on Friday.
Cars and transportation are almost always an issue, and every car is golden. If you don't have a car, we will either put you with an assistant, if one is available, or find a ride, somehow. It is somewhat limiting and can be a deciding factor in which assignment you get.
Try Expedia.com for rental cars; the best and nearest town is Middletown, New York.
Hi Suzy-
ReplyDeleteI'm more then willing to rent a car if I need it for my assignment. Just like Ehrin I'll probably need a ride to get the car.
Thanks for all your help and advice.
Kristin
Hi Suzy,
ReplyDeletei am completely without a car and cannot rent one as i am apparently too young. what can i do to help ease the process?
-Ty
In california, most the car rental companies require you to be at least 21 to rent a car. If thats the case in NY, I wont be able to get one.
ReplyDeleteIf age isnt a problem then i'm all for renting one as well. $35/day isnt bad.
I'll do a bit of research and see if i'll be able to get one.
Thanks for the info, this blog is going to be a huge help!

Hey guys: If you ARE able to rent a car, you'll be happy to have one. If you can't -- Ty and Dylan -- fear not! We will have drivers, whether they are lighting people, black team people, or even Brad or me.
ReplyDeleteThe idea behind putting out the word for car rental is so that enough people who can drive, will -- and so that the people who definitely CAN'T rent will have drivers.
And we WILL get you to your assignments. A for-instance: Last year one student was shooting climbers in the 'Gunks. He was the only student who had climbing skills, and so he really was the only person for the gig. The climbers he was shooting started out at 4am -- from a fifty-mile drive away! He didn't have a car, and so he hit the road with his driver at 2am.
It's a balancing act, and you'll see how "team" comes together when we start sorting out the transportation!
Anyone who does rent will have transportation to the rental place to pick up.
Thanks for everything, guys, and for the communication!
Suzy
(ps: slowly going through your websites. wow: this is going to be a really terrific group.)
Suzy-
ReplyDeleteI'll be driving in with my car.
